The Roman Catholic religion is
the central feature of our existence, and experienced staff teach
the Catholic faith to all age groups. The school chaplain
a priest of the Oxford Oratory spends two days a week at
school teaching and looking after the pastoral needs of the staff
and pupils.
Each school day begins with Prayers; a short form of worship which includes a hymn, collective and private prayer, a reading and a short talk or presentation. Members of different forms lead Prayers on some occasion throughout the year.
Boys are prepared for First Confession and First Communion, where desired, in Year 4 and they receive their First Holy Communion at Mass on or around Corpus Christi. Boys in Year 8 who wish it, are prepared for Confirmation which normally takes place in early December.
School Masses are arranged for Holy Days and feast days in term time, and, in addition, at least one other school Mass is said at the Little Oratory. We have the privilege of using the Fathers’ own chapel for School Masses, Benediction, and the annual Carol Service. The school has its own Schola Cantorum, members of which sing the traditional liturgical music of the Church. The Year 8 boys have the opportunity to serve at all School liturgical functions, and on one Sunday a month at the 11am High Mass at the Oratory Church.
There is usually an Afternoon of Recollection or Day Retreat once a year, on Shrove Tuesday. This is given by visiting clergy.
The boys are given the opportunity to go to Confession once each term at the Oratory Church, and the School Chaplain is available to hear confessions any time he is at the School.
